Judge rules in favor of lesbian teen

Last night I watched “Bruno” for the 1st time and while Bruno is intended to be a comedy it really did an excellent job at helping to illustrate the homophobic climate that permeates America. In the video you are about to see below a high school students memories are tarnished forever because she is openly lesbian and wanted to take her female companion to the prom.

In stead of having the problem and allowing a lesbian student to take part the school canceled the prom for everyone. The good news is a federal judge ruled that the openly lesbian teens civil rights were violated and hopefully that will help to pave the way for some sort of settlement and more importantly help to ease the struggles for the GLBT students that will come after her.

Can a straight man have gay friends?

https://i0.wp.com/www.ght.org.uk/userfiles/image/webgeneral/gaydar.jpg

Often times we in the GLBT community hear whispers and murmurings of celebrities who may be gay or “gay friendly”. Then there are those times that we place the label of gay on certain male celebrities as if being gay was a negative thing.

How many times have we heard one of our friends say something like: “Girl Usher is a queen” or “You know Kanye likes the boys”. Are we sometimes our own worse enemy when it comes to embracing who we are?

If we accuse others of being gay as a means of berating them of ridiculing them, doesn’t it have a note of self-loathing?

All of this made me wonder if a straight man could befriend someone of a different sexuality without being accused of  “dipping in the pool” ?

Gays making a strong impact on New Orleans Hip Hop/Bounce scene

With Name like Big Freedia and Sissy Nobby…you would hardly expect them to be associated with the blatantly homophobic hip hop scene but that is exactly whats going down in the Big Easy.

New Orleans is not only the home to Hurricane Katrina there is a new storm brewing and unlike Katrina this storm is bringing enlightenment and understanding to everyone it touches. Better know for Zydeco and etouffee New Orleans has long been thought of as destitute. No matter how bad things have gotten in Nawlins there has always been a soundtrack. Music has always been an integral part of what makes New Orleans special.

Check out the new faces on the musical scene in New Orleans and see the great things they are doing to change the face of hip-hop.
