Bow-Wow and Teairra Mari team up for Lottery Ticket

Check out the trailer for the new film Lottery Ticket, starring Bow-Wow, Teairra Mar, Nauturi Naughton and more…

The story of a young man living in the projects who has to survive a three-day weekend after his opportunistic neighbors find out he’s holding a winning lottery ticket worth $350 million.

Ticked Off Trannies With Knives 2.0

Looks like the director of the movie is having a change of heart and not a moment to soon (if you ask me).

I am happy to see that the director understands the power of imagery and is willing to make a compromise.

I’m still not sure I want to see the film.

The director of “Ticked-Off Trannies With Knives,” a movie planned for the Tribeca Film Festival that has set off a war of words before being screened there, said he would amend its trailer so it would not refer to real-life victims of violence. In an e-mail message, Israel Luna, who wrote and directed the film, said he was inspired to create the movie “in part by the hate crimes against the trans community.” He said he included references in his trailer to Angie Zapata, a transgender woman who was beaten to death in Colorado in 2008, and to Jorge Mercado, a gay teenager who was murdered in Puerto Rico in 2009, “to give a disturbing reality to my film about transgender violence.” “After listening to some of the voices in the trans community,” Mr. Luna said, “I’ve decided to remove those references from the trailer.” A listing for the movie at tribecafilm.com had drawn angry comments, and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation had sought the movie’s removal from the festival, saying, “The film, its title and its marketing misrepresent the lives of transgender women and use grotesque, exploitative depictions of violence against transgender women.”

Janet and Tyler sit down for “Why Did I Get Married Too?”

April 2nd is almost upon us as promotions for “Why Did I Get Married Too” are at full tilt! Janet and Tyler have been everywhere in the past week and expect to see more of them as the weekend draws near.

I don’t know about you all but I have been counting the days until the release of this movie. Its going to be a draw for blood this weekend because boyfriend is dying to see “Clash Of The Titans” but I know where my money is going and its not to C.G.I.

Any-who….check out this recent interview with Janet and Tyler and make sure you have your ass in line this weekend to support my girl Janet!

“Ticked Off Trannies With Knives”

We all know that transsexuals don’t have the best image to begin with. Most transsexuals are objectified or forced to be over the top personalities in order to be palatable. Being that their are very few transsexual characters on television and in film the images that are in the media should humanize gender variant women and men and not vilify them.

I am not above being able to laugh at myself but at this point I really feel that a movie titled “Ticked Off Trannies With Knives” is not going to bring any value to a community that is already struggling to (pardon the pun) carve out its own niche in society.

Although I have yet to see the film…GLADD is taking a storg stance against the film and I support them.

Read more about the film below and see if you agree or disagree?

GLAAD was recently alerted by community members and allies to a film called Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives that will be screened at the upcoming Tribeca Film Festival.

GLAAD has since seen the film in its entirety and can report that the title is far from the only problem with this film. The film, its title and its marketing misrepresent the lives of transgender women and use grotesque, exploitative depictions of violence against transgender women in ways that make light of the horrific brutality they all too often face.

Misrepresenting the Lives of Transgender Women

Writer/director Israel Luna based his film on the “exploitation films” of the 1970s such as I Spit On Your Grave, about a woman who was raped and sought revenge on her attackers.  The five lead characters in Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives are brutally attacked by a group of men; two do not survive the attack, but the surviving three seek gruesome revenge on their attackers.  The film is a pastiche of graphic violence and horror movie clichés, with a few scenes of campy humor.

By marketing Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives as a “transploitation” film, by using the word “trannies” (a pejorative term for transgender people) in the title of the film, by casting transgender women in some roles, and by citing the murders of Angie Zapata and Jorge Mercado in the trailer, Israel Luna has attempted to place his film squarely within a transgender narrative.

However, while some of the actors in the film identify as transgender, the characters are written as drag queens, “performing” femininity in a way that is completely artificial. The very names of these over-the-top female caricatures (Emma Grashun, Rachel Slurr, et al.) drive this point home.

Because of its positioning as a transgender film, viewers unfamiliar with the lives of transgender women will likely leave this film with the impression that transgender women are ridiculous caricatures of “real women.” It demeans actual transgender women who struggle for acceptance and respect in their day-to-day lives and to be valued for their contributions to our society.

Exploiting and Sensationalizing Anti-Transgender Violence

Transgender people are a marginalized and vulnerable minority in our culture, subjected to horrific hate crimes and pervasive discrimination.  Relatively few media images of transgender people exist, so every media image becomes essential in educating audiences about transgender lives and working to eliminate the discrimination and violence they face.

In this context, it is irresponsible and insulting to make a film that serves up graphic anti-transgender violence as a “hook” for an homage to B-movies of the 1970s.  Anti-LGBT hate crimes are serious issues that do not translate into an exploitation film.  The very nature of exploitation films is to shock and titillate audiences with extreme, sensationalized violence.

Films like Boys Don’t Cry and A Girl Like Me: The Gwen Araujo Story have graphically portrayed the murders of transgender people. In a serious dramatic context, such depictions convey the tragic reality of the violence that many transgender people face. But in this film, repeated shots of a baseball bat covered in clumps of hair and blood are grotesque – and serve only as horror movie-like gore. Depictions of violence and brutality are immediately followed by ridiculous scenes that make light of the horrific crimes that have been committed.  There is nothing funny about the murders of countless LGBT people who have fallen victim to hate-motivated violence.

Furthermore, the filmmakers have chosen to market Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives using a crass trailer that opens with references to the recent murders of Angie Zapata and Jorge Mercado, putting their brutal murders on par with the outlandish violence in this film.

TAKE ACTION NOW!

GLAAD finds it troubling that a film festival as respected as Tribeca would give a film that sensationalizes anti-transgender violence and misrepresents the lives of transgender women, a platform that affords such great exposure.  The Tribeca Film Festival has a history of screening powerful LGBT films, such as the GLAAD Media Award-nominated Quentin Crisp biopic An Englishman in New York, and the GLAAD Media Award-winning film Transamerica, about a transgender woman reconnecting with her son.  Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives does not meet, and in fact devalues, the standard of excellence established by the festival.

GLAAD has reached out to writer/director Israel Luna and the Tribeca Film Festival, and both have refused to take responsibility for the problematic content and offensive marketing of this film.  We urge you to contact the Tribeca Film Festival and call on them to pull Ticked-Off Trannies with Knives from their schedule. Send an email with suggested text to the Tribeca Film Festival below.

Janet taking a break from music; begins shooting new film!

https://i0.wp.com/popbytes.com/img/janet-jackson-feedback-1.jpg

Looks like my favorite Diva is going to be taking a hiatus from music for a little bit and while some fans may be disappointed…I am so totally stoked!

As much as it pains me to say this Janet’s sales have been in trouble and will probably never return to their former glory. The music industry as a whole is in trouble and I have a feeling that Janet will not be the only singer looking to make a jump to films.

Janet should focus on film and soundtracks at this point. I think that is killing two birds with one stone and helping to solidify her legacy as an actress. She’s already proven herself musically so its nice to see her exercising her acting chops.

For her next role, Janet will re-team with her good friend Tyler Perry as well as former label mate Mariah Carey and Whoopi Goldberg in the Tyler Perry movie adaptation of the book ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf’. The new movie begins shooting in June.

Janet photographed on the set of Nothing

Pop Icon, Janet Jackson was spotted on the set of “Nothing” which is the lead single from her new Tyler Perry produced movie “Why Did I Get Married Too”. The film is slated to be released on April 2nd and hopefully the video will arrive shortly thereafter.

Why they are not releasing the video prior to the release of the film is beyond me. One can only speculated that its due to some sort of scheduling conflicts.

In any case check out the pic of a stunning Janet and be sure to go see the film, request the song on your local radio stations and purchase it on Itunes!

Janet and Tyler stopped by The Today Show in support of their new film “Why Did I Get Married Too” Janet looked ageless and radiant during the interview and her hair! The hair and the makeup were on point!

This movie cannot be released fast enough for me!
